Drivers must bring their own car; however, we will have rental helmets available. Passengers are allowed and must be wearing a seat belt. Drivers should wear long pants and closed toed shoes.

GENERAL INFO & SAFETY

Unleash your inner drift enthusiast at the Drift Clinic at Pikes Peak International Raceway! Perfect for beginners and intermediate drivers, this hands-on clinic offers a safe and controlled environment to learn and master the art of drifting. With expert instructors, you’ll dive into the fundamentals of car control that will have you sliding with confidence. The day includes guided practice sessions, real-time feedback, and plenty of track time to hone your skills. Participation in a PPIR Drift Clinic is a requirement for new drivers to Drift at all PPIR Festival Events. A Beginner or Advanced Drift License can be attained at the Drift Clinic and a License is necessary to Drift. 

DRIFT CLINIC & DRIFT LICENSE

This Vehicle Tech Inspection ensures the safety of the driver and attendees. The safety and PPIR activity worthiness of a vehicle is the driver’s responsibility. The following vehicle inspection is required prior to any PPIR activity.

All vehicles must be presented ready to race. All vehicles must pass the self technical inspection prior to entering the racing surface.  It is the responsibility of each individual to make certain that his or her vehicle is track worthy.  PPIR reserves the right at ANY TIME during the event to not allow any vehicle on track which it deems to be unsafe or unsuited for track driving. The following items should be thoroughly inspected/set before arriving to the raceway:

WHEELS & TIRES

  • All 4 tires are in good condition, with adequate tread depth, are clear of damage and no more than 5 years old 

  • All lug nuts are present and torqued per spec

STEERING & SUSPENSION

  • No play in wheel bearings

  • Minimal play in steering linkage

  • All suspension and steering components are installed properly and torqued per spec

ENGINE

  • No fluid leaks of any kind

  • Hoses & belts are in good condition

  • Antifreeze MUST be  replaced with water

BRAKES

  • Adequate brake pad thickness

  • No cracks or high spots on rotors

  • Solid pedal feel

  • Brake lines are in good condition

SAFETY EQUIPMENT

  • (Refer to PPIR.com drift page for more information on drift safety requirements)

  • Factory or modified safety equipment meets or exceeds PPIR’s drift safety requirements

  • If drivers intend to take passengers, the equipment safety standard of the driver and passenger safety cell must match

  • Roll bar required for convertibles. Factory roll bar or better

  • A minimum of SNELL, FIA, SFI, or full face DOT helmet manufactured after 2015

  • Vehicles must have an A, B, C rated fire extinguisher secured within drivers reach

MISCELLANEOUS

  • Gas cap is secured

  • No exposed electrical wires

  • Vehicle is free of loose items (including trunk/bed)

  • Battery is properly secured with positive battery terminal is covered

  • Vehicle interior and exterior are free of sharp, exposed edges

  • Hoses and lines are securely fastened and routed properly

  • All cars must have a tow hook (front and rear preferred)

  • All body parts (arms, hands, feet, etc.) must always remain in the vehicle

Upon entering the gate, you will receive a Tech Card to fill out. The Tech Card must be turned in to PPIR Staff at the starting grid area prior to making the first lap of the day. The PPIR Staff will put a Tech Sticker on the windshield of the car after receiving the tech card filled out.

VEHICLE TECHNICAL INSPECTION
